Home Gym Space Planner
Enter your room size and ceiling height to find out which equipment realistically fits, what will not, and how to arrange it. A squat rack needs about 7.5 ft of ceiling; a mat and bands need almost nothing. Let us check your actual room.

Common questions
How much space do I need for a home gym?
A surprisingly small amount. A mat, bands and adjustable dumbbells fit in about 25 sq ft, which is one corner of a room. A bench and a rower want closer to 60 to 80 sq ft. A full power rack with room to move around it needs about 80 to 100 sq ft. The planner above checks your exact dimensions against each item.
What is the minimum ceiling height for a home gym?
For mat work, dumbbells and a rowing machine, a standard 8 ft ceiling is plenty. Overhead pressing, a pull-up bar and jumping rope need roughly your standing height plus 20 in, so a 6 ft person wants about 7.7 ft of clearance. A power rack with overhead pressing realistically wants 7.5 to 8 ft. Enter your height above and the tool factors it in.
Can I fit a squat rack in my room?
Two things decide it: floor area and ceiling height. A rack itself is compact, but you need clearance to load plates and step back, so budget around 80 sq ft. Ceiling has to clear your overhead press, usually 7.5 ft or more. If your ceiling is under 7 ft, a half rack or wall-mounted folding rack is the better call.
What fits in a small apartment?
Plenty. A mat zone, adjustable dumbbells, resistance bands and a foldable bench give you a full strength routine in a single corner, and they all pack away. Skip the treadmill and rack; choose a spin bike over a rower if floor length is tight. You can train every muscle group without drilling a single hole.
Do I need clearance around equipment?
Yes, and people forget it. The machine footprint is not the same as the space it needs in use. Leave about 2 ft of walking lane around a bike or rower, 3 ft on the loading side of a rack, and a full arm-swing radius for kettlebell work. The planner already builds this clearance into each footprint.
